Introduction

Foundational skills are the core and essential skills needed to engage successfully in life and work. A lack of skills in these areas impacts on the individual, which in turn impacts on the business in areas such as productivity, professional behaviour, time keeping, decision making, financial status and general well-being. The foundational skills courses have been developed to provide everyone with a solid foundation for further personal and professional development. The Foundational Skills courses encompass the following outcomes:

Foundational skills courses available are:

  •   Managing personal finances: knowledge, skills and tools to budget, tackle debt and manage money to create financial stability
  •   Managing work – course options include:
    • Doing the work: taking responsibility for meeting job requirements, managing tasks and work to deal efficiently with customers and colleagues, organising time, planning and prioritising, use of recourses, working within structures
    • Working with others: working in a team, basic etiquette skills such as business writing skills, meeting, eating and greeting protocols, dealing with clients professionally, respecting others, effective communication, understanding rules, procedures and codes of conducts
    • Working within the organisation: taking responsibility for completing work assignments, working within the organisation’s norms and quality requirements, working within legal requirements, improving productivity and work skills
  •   Presentation skills – a one day introductory course that provides the base knowledge and skills to speak in public or present to a group of people
